At the recent Paris Grand Slam, Ontario Judoka, Jessica Klimkait captured the silver medal, her tenth consecutive medal in international competition. Coming off a recent shoulder injury, this was a fantastic return to competition.
Facing local favourite, Priscilla Gneto of France, Klimkait pushed the grand final match into Golden Score, narrowly missing the gold medal after receiving a third shido. She began her day in the under-57 kg weight class with a victory over Altantsetseg Batsukh of the United Arab Emirates, followed by another over Seija Ballahaus of Germany. She then defeated Daria Bilodid of Ukraine before edging out Haruka Funakubo of Japan in the semi-final.
Klimkait now has eleven Grand Slam medals in her collection, and solidifies her IJF World Ranking of second place behind fellow Canadian Christa Deguchi.
Fellow Ontarian, Shady El Nahas also competed at the Paris Grand Slam event and narrowly missed out on the bronze medal in the under 100kg group.
